Vanermuseet - for aquatic life and life fate
Amongst fishes and folklore creatures, sunken ships and treasures you will find a museum full of fantastic facts and exciting stories. The Lake Vänern Museum is an open, keen and on the go museum. Focused on nature, culture and the vast lake Vänern - more like a sea than a lake.
The exhibitions offer thrilling experienses comprising history as well as present times, ships and ship wrecks, fishing and agriculture, environment and climate, and last but not least famous and unknown people from Lidköping.
The aquarium department shows several of the 40 different fresh water species that inhabits the lake.
There are also many hands-on activities and experiments for both young and old.
It is our intention to make Lake Vänern Museum a creative, interesting and entertaining meeting place.
Life by Lake Vänern has always been a matter of giving and taking. Man has taken advantage of the environment in many different ways, but has also influenced it and changed it. During thousands of years our ancestors have put their imprints in the shape of ancient remains on land and at the bottom of the lake, the meadows and grazing grounds, in biological diversity, in fishing resorces, but also through what can be found in the museum; objects, pictures, archives.
At lake Vänern Museum we want to promote curiosity and make visitors better understand the link between nature and culture.
